Archeology Program       Read All About Our Dig

.

It was a great day for digging at the farm! Over 35 people came, including some who were here last year, to help uncover a little history here at the farm.  Linda White our staff historian, and employee of the Saratoga National Historical Park, informed visitors of the importance archeology, creative research methods, and past finds here at the farm.  The focus for the day was on two different sites.  At one location, we set out to expose an old foundation just beyond the wetland off the back of the museum. The second site, which turned up many a treasure was located off the north west corner of the sugar house.  Here, recovered objects included; a large steel wheel approx. 3' in diameter, possibly from an old wagon or barrel, many small pieces of pottery with hand painted designs, a couple full sized intact bottles (one of which reads C.E. Ingraham Bolton Landing NY Registered – This Bottle Not To Be Sold). As you can see from the pictures a host of other mechanical parts, leather from shoes, and casings from shotgun shells. This program was so well attended we look forward to offering it again next season.  Thanks to all who participated!
